Entel Movil to expand and upgrade GSM infrastructure

1 May 2009

Bolivian news source RED Bolivia is reporting that Entel Movil, a wholly owned subsidiary of Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Entel), is planning to significantly improve its GSM coverage in congested urban areas and those rural regions where it lacks a presence. The expansion and upgrades across all nine of the country’s departments will see Entel install around 225 new base stations, and the cellco expects to increase its network capacity by up to one million lines by June 2009. It claims that the plans will allow it to reach more than one million people across 11,969 communities. Entel Movil is also planning to deploy 3G services this year, although it has not announced any timeframe or locations for such a service.
