Conlinet plans FTTH network in Essen

1 May 2009

Comlinet, a German service provider of telecoms infrastructure solutions, has established a new company with EVV, the holding company of the city of Essen, with the aim of expanding the city’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network. The new firm, named essen.net, hopes to connect 70% of the city’s inhabitants to the network within the next six years, offering download speeds of up to 100Mbps. The company will lease its infrastructure to the country’s cablecos, including Arcor, Unitymedia, Versatel and HanseNet. The project still needs permission from the City Council of Essen, which will make its decision on 24 June, before any work can begin.
