Telmex Internacional reports 1Q 2009 net profit drop

30 Apr 2009

Mexican telecoms group Telmex Internacional has released its financial results for the three months ended 31 March 2009, revealing a 15% drop in net profit as a result of increased interest charges on debts. The operator reported net profit of MXN1.65 billion (USD114.6 million), compared to MXN1.94 billion a year earlier. The operator noted that it paid MXN396 million in interest on debts during the quarter, but did say that this had been offset by some foreign exchange gain, notably from the strengthening of the Brazilian reais. Revenue for the group was up 12% year-on-year to MXN20.6 billion, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) was MXN4.8 billion, a 2.6% y-o-y increase.
