Japan’s leading cellco in terms of subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, plans to launch high speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) services in June, in the process increasing maximum uplink speeds fifteen-fold on those currently provided by its 3G network FOMA. Although the precise launch date is still unknown, DoCoMo’s HSUPA service will be a first for the country when it does arrive, offering a maximum 5.7Mbps connection (uplink) and 7.2Mbps (downlink).
