Internet user base tops 3.1 million

Belarus’ deputy minister of communications and informatisation, Ivan Rak reported on 22 April 2009 there are over 3.1 million internet users in Belarus. According to local online portal e-Belarus, around 180 telecoms operators provide internet access in the Republic. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database notes that Belarus is home to around 470,000 broadband internet subscribers, the majority of which (250,000) use national PTO Beltelecom’s Byfly ADSL service.
