Express Telecom receives additional 10MHz frequency

Filipino wireless operator Express Telecommunication Company (Express Telecom) has been awarded additional frequency by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to help its plan to re-launch in the domestic mobile market. The director of the NTC’s common carrier authorisation division, Edgardo Cabarios, told local newspaper BusinessMirror has recommended the operator’s plan to use its existing 880MHz-890MHz radio frequency allocation, alongside the newly assigned bandwidth in the 900MHz band, specifically 925MHz-935MHz. The NTC approved Express Telecom’s application last month. The company has now had been advised to file for the necessary permit to purchase equipment within 60 days from date of the approval of its request. The paper confirms that Express Telecom, the country’s oldest cellular firm, has been granted additional frequency which the NTC believes is ‘more than sufficient to efficiently operate a 3G network’.
