Earthlink ‘above expectations’, net income down 37%

Atlanta-based broadband operator Earthlink has reported revenues of USD199 million for the first quarter of 2009, down from USD263 million for the same period a year earlier. Net income for the three months ended 31 March dropped 37% year-on-year, but rose 16% on 4Q 2008 to USD32.5 million. The company reported EBITDA of USD68.8 million, a USD13.2 million drop on the first quarter of 2008. Earthlink CEO Rolla P. Huth said, ‘In light of the difficult economic environment, we are especially pleased with our first quarter results. Most of our key metrics were in line with, or above expectations.’
