Romania’s National Communications Authority (ANCOM) has introduced measures to bring mobile termination rates down to a maximum of EUR0.0567 (USD0.075) per minute by July 2010. Operators Cosmote and Telemobil may charge a maximum interconnection tariff of EUR0.064 per minute from 1 May 2009, EUR0.0567 per minute from 1 January 2010 and EUR0.0503 per minute from 1 July 2010. Rival operator RCS&RDS may charge a maximum of EUR0.072 per minute from 1 May 2009, EUR0.064 per minute from 1 January 2010 and EUR0.567 per minute from 1 July 2010. The country’s two largest mobile providers by subscribers – Orange Romania and Vodafone Romania – will continue to charge EUR0.0503 per minute, the rate set by ANCOM in 2006. Catalin Marinescu, president of ANCOM, said, ‘By imposing these interconnection tariffs we ensure that the Romanian users benefit from affordable tariffs for off-net calls.’
