Clearwire considers Taiwan investment

US-based WiMAX specialist Clearwire is in talks with Taiwanese WiMAX licensee Global Mobile over a potential strategic alliance, DigiTimes reports. Under the agreement Clearwire could buy an equity stake in the company, as part of Global Mobile’s plans to raise capital to finance the installation of its network infrastructure. Global Mobile, which holds a WiMAX concession covering northern Taiwan, currently has a registered capital of TWD1.13 billion (USD33.4 million) and intends to increase this by up to TWD1.9 billion in 2009.
