Econet to introduce pre-paid roaming

21 Apr 2009

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe plans to be the first mobile operator in the country to introduce pre-paid international roaming, reports news source Radiovop quoting a company spokesperson, adding that the service is now possible because of recent regulatory changes allowing cellcos to charge customers in foreign currency. Engineers have begun work to install the system, and users of Econet’s pre-paid Buddie packages should be able to use their handsets in other countries by the end of the year. The spokesperson told Radiovop: ‘We know that people think the service is already available but we really are still a few months away from the service. But it is definitely coming.’
