Verizon outlines LTE plan

Verizon Wireless, the second largest wireless provider by subscribers in the US, plans to have rolled out Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology across its network by 2014, Unstrung reports. Roger Gurnani, senior vice president of product development, outlined the plan to launch LTE tests in a number of markets by the end of 2009, before expanding to around 30 markets in 2010. Gurnani added, ‘From there we’ll build it out in the next two, three years, where we’ll have LTE deployed throughout our footprint. ’

CommsUpdate reported on 18 February 2009 that Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson were named as equipment suppliers for the network rollout.
