Sercomtel launches NGN in Rolandia

Brazilian telecoms operator Sercomtel has launched its next generation network (NGN) in Parana state, offering fixed telephony in the city of Rolandia in the initial phase. At launch, the new NGN will have capacity for 20,000 users it said. Sercomtel contracted Huawei to build the new platform in 2008, awarding the Chinese vendor a BRL4.9 billion (USD2.24 billion) contract for the installation of the NGN which will eventually replace its legacy TDM infrastructure.
