Mixed first quarter results for Taiwanese telcos

Two of Taiwan’s leading telecoms providers have announced their operating results for the first quarter of 2009. Incumbent telco Chunghwa Telecom announced that consolidated revenues fell 3.25% in the first three months of 2009 down to TWD45.2 billion (USD1.34 billion) down from TWD46.7 billion in the same period of 2008. Net profit, however, rose to TWD10.8 billion from TWD10.7 billion a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, Taiwan Mobile, reported a 22.2% drop in net income down to TWD3.26 billion from TWD4.19 billion a year prior, while revenues fell by 2% year-on-year to TWD16.88 billion.
