GTel permitted to roll out 3G network with Vinaphone

9 Apr 2009

VietNamNet is reporting that the government of Vietnam has allowed cellco GTel Mobile to cooperate with rival Vinaphone to build a 3G network and provide the relevant services. The announcement follows the licensing of five companies last week by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to roll out third generation services; Viettel, MobiFone, Vinaphone and a consortium between EVN Telecom and Hanoi Telecom. Despite applying, S-Fone and GTel were not granted a concession, but are permitted to combine with the four winners to provide the service in the country.
