Open Mobile deploys BOSS support system

8 Apr 2009

Puerto Rican mobile operator Open Mobile has selected Colombian-based Open Systems International Corp, a specialist in Business and Operations Support Solutions (BOSS), to deploy its Integrated OpenSmartflex system to support its business model and help it to expand the coverage and service range of its network. The implementation is designed to support billing, customer care and the expansion of mobile telephony services into new markets. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Open Mobile, previously known as New Comm Wireless (Movistar), was formerly owned by US-based wireless operator Clearcom and Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica, but filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2006 as it struggled to compete in the island’s market of six mobile operators. The company was sold in March 2007 to US-backed holding company PRWireless, owned by investors including M/C Venture Partners and Columbia Capital, for USD160 million, and was re-launched in June 2007.
