Vodafone to establish IPTV R&D centre in Eschborn

3 Apr 2009

UK-based Vodafone Group has announced it has selected Eschborn in Germany as the location for a new global research and development centre for internet protocol television (IPTV), video and home entertainment products and services. All of the Vodafone Group’s development and marketing activities for IPTV and connected home products will now be based in Germany. The group said it chose Eschborn near Frankfurt because fixed line services provider Arcor, which Vodafone acquired last year from Deutsche Bank and Deutsche Bahn, is headquartered there. ‘We are aiming to be the best integrated telecommunications group by pooling Vodafone and Arcor’s strengths. The choice of Germany as the location for the IPTV, video and connected home competence centre expresses the Vodafone Group’s confidence in the German team’s innovative strength,’ explained Vodafone Germany CEO Friedrich Joussen. Vodafone Germany will be a pilot market for the new services.
