Qwest to sell long-distance network

US wireline operator Qwest Communications International is reportedly considering selling its long-distance network, which is valued at between USD2 billion-USD3 billion. The telco operates the network as a wholesale business, carrying long-distance calls and internet traffic for other operators. The company has USD560 million of debt maturing in 2009 and USD2.2 billion maturing in 2010. Qwest has seen subscriber numbers steadily decline since 2003, with 11.56 million customers at the end of 2008.
