SAR435 million network expansion for Mobily

Motorola has been awarded a SAR435 million (USD116 million) contract to expand Mobily’s GSM network. The turnkey expansion will enhance Mobily’s GSM coverage and capacity as the cellco attempts to expand its subscriber base in 2009. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Mobily was Saudi Arabia’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers at the end of December 2008, with a total of 14.8 million subscribers, a 41.16% market share. Mobily’s main competitor is market leader Saudi Telecom, which holds a 52.84% market share.
