Carphone Warehouse considering Tiscali bid

30 Mar 2009

British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Carphone Warehouse may place a last-minute bid for the UK broadband operations of Italy’s Tiscali. Despite having walked away from talks last year, the Carphone Warehouse may step in after negotiations between Tiscali and BSkyB broke down earlier this month; it is rumoured however that BSkyB may return to the table. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the Carphone Warehouse was the third largest broadband operator in terms of subscribers at the end of December 2008, with 2.72 million customers. At the same date BSkyB had 1.96 million customers, putting it in fourth place in the market.
