UOL: 2008 revenues up 48%, broadband base climbs 23%

Brazilian online media portal and internet company Universo Online (UOL) said advertising and other revenues reached BRL283.8 million (USD126.7 million) in 2008, up 48% year-on-year, and that paying broadband subscribers reached 1.2 million, up 23% on the number reported at 31 December 2007. EBITDA in 2008 was BRL123.2 million, a 20% fall on the year earlier figure; the EBITDA margin was 21%, down eight percentage points from 2007. Full year net income, excluding non-recurring items, rose 6% y-o-y, the company said.
