26 Mar 2009

Sprint Nextel has announced plans to deploy WiMAX network equipment across nine additional cities in 2009. Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Portland and Seattle are first in line for WiMAX, which will be offered under the Sprint 4G banner, with networks in Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC expected to follow in 2010. Sprint 4G was first rolled out in Baltimore in September 2008, offering subscribers peak data transfer speeds of up to 12Mbps, with an average of 3Mbps. In December 2008 Sprint completed a deal with Clearwire to merge WiMAX networks, in a bid to reach 120 million subscribers by year-end 2010.
