Delta Telecom partners Alcatel-Lucent for network upgrade, expansion

26 Mar 2009

Azerbaijan’s Delta Telecom, which owns the largest internet backbone network in the Caucasus region, has selected French vendor Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade and expand its optical transport network. The deployment of the vendor’s fibre-optic solution will begin in the capital Baku and will then be extended to the major links connecting Azerbaijan with neighbouring countries. The modernisation will enable Delta Telecom to significantly increase the capacity and efficiency of its network to deliver advanced services to its end-users, as well as allowing the company to enhance wholesale bandwidth offering for international traffic transit. General director of Delta Telecom, Ramazan Valiyev, said: ‘In anticipation of the data traffic growth in Azerbaijan, we decided to modernise our nationwide carrier backbone infrastructure to strategically take a significant step in addressing our end-users’ demands. Alcatel-Lucent’s optical solution will give us the resiliency, scalability and outstanding service performance necessary to accommodate advanced services over time.’
