Access Kenya seals USD5m loan

26 Mar 2009

Kenyan ISP Access Kenya has announced that a KES400 million (USD5.2 million) loan has been secured with NIC Bank. Access plans to invest the funds in its metro fibre network and to conclude payment for its 1.25% stake in the TEAMS international fibre network. The ISP, which primarily caters to corporate customers, also hopes to fund the second phase expansion of its WiMAX network, which it claims is the largest in Kenya. The company also hopes to lay 130km to 150km of fibre-optic cable throughout Nairobi by June 2009 and plans to extend its IP-based network to residential areas in the second half of 2009, through its Access at Home service.
