25 Mar 2009

Idea Cellular has dipped its toe into the international long-distance (ILD) calling market having begun routing international calls with Sri Lanka’s Dialog Telekom. The Times of India reports that the company is now negotiating interconnect agreements with operators in the US, UK and some other European countries. Idea obtained national long-distance (NLD) and ILD concessions in September 2006 and began NLD services using leased fibre capacity in April 2008.
