Mobilkom Austria launches HSPA+

24 Mar 2009

Telekom Austria’s mobile subsidiary, Mobilkom Austria, has announced that it has launched a commercial evolved high speed packet access (HSPA+) network. The 3.5G platform, supplied by Ericsson, will boost Mobilkom’s network capacity and enable data transmission at speeds of up to 21Mbps, rising to 28.8Mbps later this year. The initial rollout covers Vienna’s tenth district, with expansion to other key areas by the mid-year. By 2010 Mobilkom is aiming to cover 90% of the population with its UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA network. It plans to introduce HSUPA 5.7 technology in April 2009.
