Telefonica of Spain and the UK’s Vodafone have agreed to share infrastructure and deploy it jointly in Spain, Germany, Ireland and the UK, reports Reuters. The deal, designed to cut costs worth in the region of hundreds of millions of euros, is for an initial ten years. In Germany the companies will share their 2G and 3G mobile networks. In Ireland they will share existing networks and roll out future networks jointly. In Spain, an existing cell site deal will be extended. Finally, in the UK the companies will deploy new networks together and combine existing 2G and 3G networks.
