Sunrise to launch FTTH services on 2 April

23 Mar 2009

TDC subsidiary and Swiss telecoms operator Sunrise will present its first fibre-to-the-fibre (FTTH) service for inhabitants of Zurich on 2 April. The operator has been testing triple play services on the fibre-optic network of the city’s electricity provider ewz since the autumn of 2008 and now claims to be ready to launch commercial services. Details and prices will be announced on 2 April.

Sunrise’s competitor Orange Switzerland has offered a triple-play package over ewz’s fibre-optic network since May 2008, under the banner Orange Home. The service offers a 30Mbps/1Mbps broadband internet connection, voice telephony (Orange Fixtalk) plus a HDTV service with more than 100 TV channels for CHF69 (USD61) a month. In September last year ewz also signed service provision deals with Swiss ISPs Netstream, and Init Seven and cable network operators GGA Maur and Transluminia.
