Nextel has licence expanded by SCT

20 Mar 2009

BNamericas is reporting that the Mexican telecoms regulator, the Secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT), has altered digital trunking operator Nextel’s concession licence, allowing the telco to offer a wider range of services. Nextel will now be able to offer fixed-wireless, mobile and data services. According to Gustavo Canut, business development vice president at Nextel, the licence extension has cost the company MXN18 million (USD1.2 million). The move comes after the SCT announced last month that it was aiming to implement changes aimed at boosting investment in the telecoms sector; the regulator is granting new reseller licences for fixed and mobile telephony, data transmission and internet access.
