Iliad hopes for Homer run in mobile licence bid

20 Mar 2009

French alternative operator Iliad (Free) is ramping up efforts to win the country’s fourth and final mobile operating licence, promising strong growth in free cash flow this year to finance its planned challenge to incumbent operator France Telecom (FT). Iliad hopes to generate EUR300 million (USD411 million) in free cash flow this year, compared with EUR210 million in 2008, to give it the necessary financial clout to roll out a mobile network and extend its fibre-optic infrastructure. Iliad is the sole candidate for the licence which is set to go to tender next month.
