Zantel looks to win market share with BabKubwa Mtelezo

Tanzanian fixed line and mobile operator Zantel has launched a new promotion in a bid to increase its market share in the local mobile sector. The cellco has launched its BabKubwa Mtelezo promotion targeting pre-paid subscribers on the island of Zanzibar where the cellco boasts of a market share of around 70%. Under the promotion, Zantel subscribers will earn free airtime (on-net) plus ten free SMS text messages (to any network). The company’s business development manager Brian Karokola said the free airtime would be given to customers purchasing airtime worth TZS2,000 (USD1.50) which entitles them free talk time worth TZS1,000. ‘With the worldwide economic recession, we at Zantel understand that mobile communication has become a necessity in everyday life and thus we provide this offer to ease financial stress for our customers,’ he added.
