Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Vodafone Qatar yesterday signed two strategic agreements, on bilateral outdoor mobile cell site sharing and network interconnection, reports Trade Arabia. ‘Under the agreement on outdoor site sharing, we expect that Qtel will share more than half of its mobile network towers’, a spokesperson for the incumbent telco stated. Second national operator (SNO) Vodafone Qatar launched a trial mobile service at the start of this month and is in the process of building out its own infrastructure. By sharing sites, the two companies aim to provide the most extensive mobile network coverage possible, to streamline costs and reduce environmental and community impact, by avoiding the unnecessary duplication of towers across Qatar.
