Primus Telecommunications files for bankruptcy

Primus Telecommunications Group, the Virginia-based provider of long-distance voice telephony and internet services, filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday. The Financial Times reports that the company has between USD500 million and USD1 billion in debts and between USD100 million and USD500 million in assets, according to court documents. The company generated more than 80% of its third-quarter sales of USD231 million from outside the United States, predominantly from its operations in Australia, Canada and the UK, and from various fibre-optic networks.
