Malaysian broadband provider Packet One Networks (P1) is set to sign a WiMAX deal with China’s ZTE Corporation, The Edge reports. The agreement will be P1’s second WiMAX contract, having previously signed a deal with Alcatel-Lucent; the new deal is expected to run alongside the existing one. The contract is expected to be signed on 19 March, and P1 has said that the deal was part of its ongoing efforts to quicken the pace of expansion across Malaysia of its WiMAX infrastructure. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, P1 launched commercial WiMAX services in August 2008 in the Klang Valley, and services were extended to Johor Baru in November that year.
