AT&T has announced that its capital spending could reach USD18 billion this year as it continues the expansion and upgrade of its fixed broadband and cellular networks. The firm plans to build more than 2,100 new cell sites across the US during 2009, as well as expanding its 3G coverage to 20 new markets. It will also continue the rollout of its U-verse fibre system which offers TV and broadband internet services and will add new Wi-Fi hotspots to its nationwide footprint. ‘AT&T’s continued strong network investment will help ensure that we’re fully ready to support the next wave of economic growth,’ says Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO.
