China Mobile seeks Taiwan links

10 Mar 2009

China Mobile has announced that it is in negotiations with Taiwan’s three largest cellular operators, Chunghwa, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone, over a possible GSM roaming deal. The relationship between China and Taiwan has been strained in the past, with China refusing to acknowledge Taiwan’s status as an independent state, but ties are now growing stronger, with increased economic cooperation between the island and the mainland. China Mobile is also seeking deals with Taiwanese device manufacturers for the production of TD-SCDMA 3G handsets, CellularNews reports.
