Spanish news source Cinco Dias is reporting that Orange Spain is in talks with fellow alternative operators Jazztel and Vodafone to join forces in investing in a new high speed broadband network. Jean-Marc Vignolles, head of Orange Spain, said of the discussions, ‘The size of the proposed deployment of the fibre network is such that it requires a joint effort,’ adding that, in relation to Vodafone, they already have an similar agreement in place for sharing mobile infrastructure that saves Orange approximately EUR75 million (USD94.9 million) per year. It is understood that the mooted tie-up would not aim to form a front against incumbent Telefonica, but instead would allow other operators to compete more effectively, as well as rationalise investment.
