Wireline operator Windstream Corp reported it has signed its one millionth broadband customer. The operator claimed 21,000 new subscribers across its 16-state broadband network thus far in the first quarter of 2009, bettering the approximately 16,000 new customers added during the fourth quarter of 2008. The company said it offers internet service through 88% of its three million access lines, with broadband offerings ranging from 1.5Mbps to 12Mbps with various packages available. Windstream began offering high speed internet services in 1999 as the landline division of Alltel Corp. The company topped the half-million customer mark in August 2006.
