6 Mar 2009

German telco HanseNet has announced its IPTV subscriber base totals 30,000, up from 20,000 at the end of June 2008. The Telecom Italia (TI) subsidiary also revealed it is preparing to launch a new set-top box (STB) supplied by Sagem in the first half of 2009 with the aim of attracting new customers. Existing customers will be offered the new STB, which features a hard drive for digital video recording, as an upgrade for an additional fee.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms, HanseNet launched its IPTV offering, Alice Home TV, ahead of rivals Deutsche Telekom (DT) and Vodafone in April 2006. By the end of 2008 the service had reached 150 cities, including Berlin and Frankfurt, and covered around ten million households.
