Regulator halts wireless tender

5 Mar 2009

Albanian telecoms regulator the ERT has halted the auction process for the country’s fourth wireless network operator licence as a result of a lack of interest. Last week it was reported that Swedish telco Tele2 tendered a bid of EUR7.2 million (USD9.23 million) for the concession, while local firm Univer offered EUR5 million and Post and Telecommunication Kosovo (PTK) an unspecified sum. According to the latest report, Tele 2 withdrew its offer while one of the other parties failed to meet bidding rules and was disqualified, leaving just a single player.
