Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) has awarded Comstar’s Armenian subsidiary Kornet-AM numbering capacity to provide fixed line voice services across the country. In a press statement, Comstar said the regulator had granted Kornet-AM’s request (submitted 8 November 2007) for 60,000 numbers and provided it with number capacity and non-geographical codes for interconnected public network to provide fixed line voice services in Armenia. The company has been assigned the following codes: 6021, 6022, 6023, 6024, 6025, 6026.
The licence award is something of a breakthrough for Comstar which according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, launched a national mobile WiMAX network in the Republic of Armenia in October last year. The operator is working in partnership with Airspan Networks, which in July 2008 announced it had begun deployment of the network, which currently comprises 24 base stations, and which covers Yerevan and 18 additional cities, offering residential and business users high speed internet, VoIP, videoconferencing and mobile services.
