Pre-paid wireless operator Virgin Mobile USA has reversed a recent trend of declining customer numbers, adding 216,000 net new users in the final three months of 2008. Virgin ended the year with 5.38 million customers. The company has also seen an increase in average revenues per user (ARPU), with monthly ARPU standing at USD21.14, up from USD20.36 in 4Q 2007. Sales for the period increased 10% year-on-year to USD326.7 million, while net losses narrowed from USD14.7 million to USD4.4 million. ‘During difficult economic times, we believe that our service plans are even more relevant to consumers searching for value and flexibility,’ said Dan Schulman, Virgin Mobile USA’s chief executive officer.
