Malaysian fixed line and broadband operator Telekom Malaysia™ and the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS) have signed a collaboration agreement. The tie-up will see the two companies join forces on research and development (R&D) activities, including wireless access and Internet Protocol technologies. Specifically it is understood with regards to wireless services the joint venture will explore the integration of TM’s Streamyx Zone wireless connectivity with MIMOS’ WiWi Gen 1.5, a hybrid solution which combines WiMAX and Wi-Fi, to extend the Streamyx Zone coverage. TM has set aside between MYR100-MYR150 million (USD27-40 million) over the next three years for R&D activities.
