MetroPCS heading for LTE in 2010

4 Mar 2009

US cellular operator MetroPCS has revealed plans to begin deployments of long-term evolution (LTE) technology in the second half of next year. The cellco currently operates CDMA wireless networks in 14 cities across the US and says its rollout of 4G technology should be a relatively simple process due to the limited geographic coverage of its systems. A report from GigaOm says that MetroPCS plans to introduce its first smartphone in the second or third quarter of this year. The company is one of a number of US operators which focus on offering flat-rate unlimited tariffs for the lower end of the market.
