CenturyTel/EMBARQ deal gets green light

US wireline carriers CenturyTel and EMBARQ have received regulatory approval for the proposed merger from authorities in the states of Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska and Ohio. The merger, which is worth around USD11.6 billion including debt, was first announced in October 2008 and is expected to be completed during the second quarter of this year. The combined company will have operations in 33 states and serve around 7.7 million access lines and two million high speed internet customers.
