Si.Mobil EBITDA up 10.4% on 11.3% sales hike

Slovenia’s Si.Mobil consolidated its position as the country’s second largest cellco by increasing its total subscriber base by 14.7% year-on-year to 570,600 at the end of December. The 2G/3G operator, a unit of Telekom Austria, posted a 10.4% annual rise in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) to EUR58.7 million (USD75.2 million), whilst 2008 operating profit reached EUR37.6 million, up by 23.9% compared to the previous year, on sales that climbed by 11.3% to EUR189.5 million in the period. In the fourth quarter of 2008, Si-Mobil’s revenues grew by 12.3% y-o-y to EUR48.5 million, and the company had 375,000 post-paid customers (65.8% of its total base) at end-2008. Market leader Mobitel had 765,000 users on monthly contracts at the end of September 2008, amongst its total customer base of 1.22 million, which gave it an overall market share of 65.2% at that date, compared to Si.Mobil’s 29.4%, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
