Globes Online is reporting that Israeli wireline and broadband provider NetVision is considering entering the wireless sector as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). It is understood that should the operator move forward with the rumoured plans it will use the network of sister company Cellcom. The report also suggests that NetVision’s decision could be based in part on whether or not rival 012 Smile Communications decides to begin MVNO operations; Smile has indicated an interest in the sector but announced no formal plans as of yet. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, iDEN provider MIRS Communications has also announced it is mulling the option of launching services under an MVNO agreement. The flurry of activity comes hot on the heels of an announcement in January 2009 by the Ministry of Communications (MoC) that it had finalised draft legislation allowing the introduction of MVNOs in the Israeli wireless sector.
