Yahoo! Japan has confirmed plans to purchase 100% of shares in Softbank Corp’s data centre business Softbank IDC Solutions for JPY45 billion (USD478.08 million). Softbank’s IDC unit currently owns and operates nine data centres in the country providing services to Yahoo! Japan and others. Upon completion of the transaction, Yahoo! Japan plans to absorb the data centre company into its own operations, in the process cutting costs and raising the efficiency of its own data management processes. The Nikkei reports that Web portal site operator Yahoo! expects its data handling to continue to grow as services such as online video distribution and software as a service (SaaS) become more widely used.
