AzTelekom takes legal action against AzEuroTel

23 Feb 2009

According to APA-Economics, state-owned telco AzTelekom has filed a lawsuit against AzEuroTel with the Baku Economic Court, stating it will stop services offered by a joint venture between itself and AzEuroTel if the latter fails to pay a number of charges for interconnection services. UK-Azeri joint venture AzEuroTel has responded with a counter-claim against AzTelekom, demanding AZM4 million (USD992,310) in damages from the company. Rizvan Safarov, technical director of AzEuroTel, stated that it would be unlawful for AzTelekom to suspend services until the court has considered the case, and says the bills have not been paid because AzTelekom failed to meet certain obligations under the contract. The trial will take place on 4 March 2009.
