Britain’s telecoms regulator Ofcom has confirmed that all five 3G licensees had maintained their coverage obligations at the end of 2008. As part of their 3G licence terms Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, 3 UK and Vodafone were all required to offer 3G services to 80% of the UK’s population by the end of December 2007. Only O2 failed to meet the original deadline, reaching the target in May 2008. As part of a routine assessment of the operators services however, Ofcom has noted that all five cellcos had maintained the level of coverage as of 31 December 2008.
