Telus annual profit falls 10%, mobile data ARPU up 40%

Canadian full-service telco Telus has posted annual operating revenues for 2008 of CAD9.653 billion (USD7.815 billion), up 6.4% year-on-year, but its consolidated net income fell by 10% to CAD1.128 billion. Twelve-month EBITDA increased by 5.3% to CAD3.779 billion, whilst CAPEX rose 5% to CAD1.859 billion, with investment focused on the wireline division (up 7.5% to CAD1.311 billion), as wireless spending shrank by 0.5% to CAD548 million. High speed internet subscribers increased by 7.5% year-on-year to 1.096 million at end-December, whilst total fixed access lines decreased by 3.6% over the same period to 4.246 million. The group’s mobile customer base grew by 10% in the twelve-month period to 6.129 million, and monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) dipped by 1.3%, although data ARPU shot up by 40% and average minutes of use climbed 1.7%.
